The Banker, the Pope and the Artist: villa Farnesina and the Corsini Gallery

Galatea, Raphael

People often say that the best Roman holiday is always the one yet to come. Perhaps this is because every time you visit the Eternal City, you discover a new and incredible masterpiece you never expected. And you ask yourself: Why didn’t I know about this? This is unbelievable!
If you ever had this feeling, this is the tour for you.

Venus, Raphael

We will delve into one of the purest examples of Renaissance art: Villa Farnesina. Built for the papal banker Agostino Chigi, it was adorned by the most exquisite artist of the time, Raphael.

The Corsini Gallery

Just across the street lies another unexpected gem: the Corsini Palace, an elegant 18th-century residence built for the family of Pope Clement XII. The first floor of the palace houses a remarkable art collection gathered by Cardinal Neri Corsini and other family members. Grandiose masterpieces and refined smaller paintings and sculptures adorn the galleries and rooms, making this collection a unique glimpse into the grandeur of a noble family mansion.
