The Rising of the Jubilee
To discover how, where, and why the Jubilee of the Catholic Church was
born, it is not particularly important to visit the Vatican. The key
location is, without a doubt, the Cathedral of Rome, Saint John Lateran,
where Pope Boniface VIII proclaimed the first Jubilee on February 22,
1300. The Cathedral, “Mother and Head” of all the churches in the world,
is, however, only the starting point of our journey to uncover the
places where the official Papacy was born and lived for centuries—the
first Christian citadel in Rome before the Vatican era.
